Side by Side is a ministry to women who are married to medical and dental students, residents, fellows, as well as staff physicians and dentists. Affiliated with the Christian Medical and Dental Associations, we are a non-denominational, Bible-based ministry that is evangelical in nature. We seek to encourage, support and minister to women in medical marriages through fellowship, Bible study and prayer.

Statement of Faith

We believe:

1. In the eternal God revealed in Holy Scripture as Father, Son & Holy Spirit;
2. In the unique Deity of Jesus Christ, God's only Son, whose death & resurrection provide the only means of our salvation;
3. In the transforming presence and power of the Holy Spirit; and
4. In the divine inspiration and final authority of the Bible as the Word of God.

Side by Side Peoria Chapter:
How we got started...
Julie Hendricker, along with her mom, Jan Driessnack, began our chapter here in Peoria in the fall of 2011. Julie grew up in Peoria, attending Peoria Christian High School, and then moved with her husband when he started residency. Julie discovered Side by Side while living in Columbus, Ohio, during her husband's residency at Ohio State.  Jan attended a Side by Side meeting with Julie, and was inspired to begin a chapter in Nashville, TN, where she and her husband, a practicing orthopaedic surgeon, were living at the time.

As of summer 2018, Julie is moving out of state and the SBS Peoria chapter will develop into a leadership team made up of Jan Driessnack, Hilarie Jones, Kristen Baber, and Valerie Bleess.

Our Yearly Schedule:
Just like the school year, the ministry of Side by Side starts new each fall. All Side by Side meetings are scheduled in conjunction with the local school calendar. If Dunlap or Peoria Christian schools are not in session, or are cancelled for any reason, Side by Side will not take place.

Registration & Childcare Costs:

We wish we could offer everything free of charge, but there are a few costs that each member is responsible for. At the beginning of each new fall session, there will be a $10 annual registration fee. This will help cover miscellaneous costs that the group incurs over the course of the year. The books we use for the study are also your own responsibility. We oftentimes order them used or borrow other's copies in order to keep the costs as low as possible.  If any of this is ever a hardship, please let someone in leadership privately know so we can help.

Side Steps Child Care:  Children are a big part of the ministry of Side by Side. If our children are not happy, mothers certainly are not happy. That is why it is one of our goals to ensure top quality child-care. We want mothers at Side by Side to feel comfortable and to relax, knowing that their children are well taken care of. We use the childcare program at Grace Presbyterian Church for the morning group meetings. The church generously offers the childcare free of charge, which is such a blessing!

The evening group utilizes wonderful babysitters who take care of our little ones while we meet upstairs at Jan's home. There is a kid friendly area downstairs with plenty to keep the little ones busy and happy! The cost of this is covered as well but donations are accepted if you are able to contribute.

We offer two different meeting times:

Side by Side Tuesday mornings:
  • Meets Tuesday mornings from 9:30 - 11:30 AM at Grace Presbyterian Church, 8607 N. State Route 91, Peoria
  • Fellowship, snacks, Bible study, prayer
  • Childcare is available through the church's program
Side by Side Tuesday evenings:
  • Meets Tuesday evenings at 6:30 PM at the home of Jan Driessnack
  • Fellowship, snacks, Bible study, prayer
  • Childcare available as needed
